Our Successes

  

HCCA Management Company has over 45 years of continued growth and success in providing international healthcare services. We have operated over 40 facilities; have recruited over 30,000 healthcare professionals throughout the world, and have provided numerous consulting/advisory services. A sample follows: 

Management & Operations


  • Australia – managed 10 acute care hospitals; established HCAustralia accreditation program to enhance and standardize quality in Australia’s private hospital sector, and opened a private medical laboratory.


  • Brazil- owned and managed 5 hospitals, 55 clinics and the largest HMO in Brazil.


  •  Malaysia – managed a privately-owned 300-bed tertiary hospital in Kuala Lumpur.


  • Panama – owned and operated a 181-bed tertiary hospital in Panama City; enhanced diagnostic & treatment options for the metro area. 


  • Russia – as a member of American Medical Consortium, established the American Clinic of Moscow (an advanced full-service medical and diagnostic center with family medicine and urgent/emergent care facilities). 


  • Saudi Arabia – commissioned, staffed, and managed the 250-bed King Fahed National Guard Hospital; became JCAHO- accredited facility within 30 months of opening.  


  • Saudi Arabia –commissioned, staffed, and managed the acute/tertiary King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Riyadh from its inception. 

  

  • Singapore – managed the Singapore General Hospital 1650-bed multispecialty medical center;  enhanced  finance & accounting; materials management; customer service; clinical protocols; patient care delivery; and human resources. Initiated counterpart training – preparing leaders/managers to assume responsibilities at the end of the 3-year agreement. Also  created an innovative payer-mix initiative -- providing for private-pay patients to also be admitted – affording hospital physicians the ability to care for “paying patients” while also supplementing  their  government salaries. 


  • United Kingdom - owned & operated seven (7) acute care hospitals and eight (8) premier long-term care facilities; worked collaboratively with the National Health Service. 

Consulting & Advisory Services

  

  • Argentina – completed an organizational assessment of two hospitals in Buenos Aires for a private venture fund. Upon completion of the review, provided a CEO to lead the hospital in implementation of review recommendations. 


  • Cape Verde – created a plan for the development of a contemporary hospital & services in this growing market. 


  • Central & Western Europe – conducted feasibility study (for an int’l venture capital fund) evaluating potential for development of acute care hospitals in Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. 


  • China – completed a feasibility study evaluating viability of a Pre-Paid Health Care Plan, as well as a public hospital and a fee-for-service hospital in Pudong, a new area of Shanghai.


  • Egypt – conducted a feasibility study for a new medical center/ambulatory center campus outside Cairo;  provided  input on detailed site/space planning; service lines; and staffing requirements. 


  • India – provided consultation to a new specialty hospital in Andra Predesh on opening phases and purchasing of medical equipment. 

 

  •  Mexico – conducted a comprehensive assessment for a group of accredited hospitals seeking to grow medical tourism; then developed  to grow medical tourism, conducted a comprehensive assessment; then developed a proposed plan for enhancing the patient care delivery model; nursing care competencies & clinical practice protocols, as well as enhanced branding. Worked in Mexico City & Hermosillo. 

 

  • Nigeria – worked with architects/engineers on plans for building & opening a new hospital in Abuja; provided input into space and site planning; patient care delivery models for inpatient and ambulatory care; and clinical staffing and operations. 

 

  • Pakistan – provided management consulting & technical assistance with design & construction of a new 700+ bed medical center and medical school in Karachi. 


  •  Philippines – completed a feasibility study for a 250-bed private tertiary hospital in the country. 

 

  • Turkey – conducted a comprehensive operational assessment (clinical, financial, operational, community image) of a multi-hospital system with locations in Bursa and Istanbul; provided recommendations for clinical and financial performance improvement. 


  • United Arab Emirates (UAE) – performed a feasibility study related to adding another private hospital in Al Ain.

Staffing : Recruitment & Retention

  

  • Worldwide – Have recruited more than 30,000 healthcare team members (front lines and executives) to serve in healthcare facilities around the world.

 

  • UAE- Provided the management team and the majority of professional and clinical staff for the Shiekh Khalifa Medical Center in Abu Dhabi


  • USA - Founded HCCA International – a company to recruit hundreds of internationally-educated and experienced nurses to work in U.S. hospitals. Incorporated a model of:
    •  in-person interviews of RN candidates in locations around the world; 
    • behavioral interviews & competencies assessments; 
    • extensive skills assessment & development to prepare professional RNs for practice in JCAHO/JCI contemporary healthcare environments. 


Maintained offices in the U.K., Abu-Dhabi, and the Philippines. Worked in India in partnership with Apollo Health Systems. Became a JCAHO-accredited organization. 


Provided services to ‘source’ country organizations such as management development series and/or education on current accreditation standards and evidence-based clinical practice.  


More than 40 U.S. healthcare organizations (for-profit and non-profit) have contracted with HCCA International to provide professional nursing staff -- minimizing staff shortages  & dramatically improving retention with competent, caring RNs. 


These services were provided by HCCA International, a company established by the founders of HCCA Management Company. They are now provided by Shearwater Health, a successor to HCCA International.
